Our planet is currently experiencing a time of huge challenge in which the lives of every human being are changing in unforeseen and unfamiliar ways and faster than populations have previously experienced.
It is imperative that we engage with new thinking about how we as a society might currently develop and train leaders who will be suitably qualified and inspired to lead this systemic global shift.
Combining Consciousness and Business Thinking
One new approach which is fast gaining traction is that of bringing consciousness into business thinking. Organisations and enterprises run by conscious leaders take the view that all of humanity, everything we do and the environment we inhabit are all interconnected.
Therefore every decision that is made should be reviewed carefully to consider how it will impact on all those working within the enterprise or business, on all those outside the enterprise including partners, suppliers and customers – and on how it may affect the environment either locally or in other parts of the world.
In the most successful companies who are using this approach, this enlightened way of thinking encourages profit as everyone is working together toward a common cause – that of planning for the best for all stakeholders in the project and, at the same time, respecting the planet and working consciously as a team to build profits for all.
The Pitfalls of the Ego
Conscious practice within organisations is in fact a very simple idea, so simple that you might wonder why modern human beings, who have grown up in cultures which are beacons of enlightenment, education and culture, have not applied this way of thinking before to the pursuit of profit. Of course it must be best to make decisions based on the common good because then everyone will bring their best selves to the workplace.
However, conscious leadership requires letting go of big egos and all the trappings of power in order to facilitate what is best for everyone and not just those people who are responsible for being in charge.
Conscious Enterprise Requires Conscious Leaders
In the future perhaps hierarchies will be even flatter than they are now and some organisations will demonstrate how they can be very effective with only a nominal leader in charge while every employee works closely in collaboration with colleagues to achieve best results without being subject to political infighting.
Management of the ego is where the real challenge lies. Those leaders who are able to lead their teams to success in future years will have worked to contain their egos and expanded their own personal development which will have enabled them to understand and subsequently to master their emotions. We currently need as many of those enlightened and conscious leaders as we can possibly find.
